Ontario Drinking Water Advisory Committee advice on addressing lead in drinking water.

Testing Your Tap Water for Lead

Elevated lead levels have recently been found in tests of tap water conducted in older homes in Ontario communities.  Older homes built before built the mid-1950s may have lead pipes servicing the premises or lead-containing solder or fixtures in the plumbing, and this may be impacting water quality in these houses. If you suspect that you may have lead materials in your service lines or plumbing and you wish to have your tap water tested, your municipality may have a program to test consumers’ water for lead.  Or, you could get your water tested by one of Ontario’s licensed laboratories. Laboratories licensed to test for lead are listed here. An interactive map has contact information for municipalities.

Municipal lead testing: On May 23, 2007, Ontario’s Chief Drinking Water Inspector issued municipalities orders to do lead testing. See the summary chart and map for sampling results.
