Training Requirements
This page provides information on training requirements for drinking water and wastewater operators as well as water quality analysts. For training providers who wish to have their courses ‘Director Approved’ under O. Reg. 128/04, please process your applications through the Water and Wastewater Operator Certification System (WWOCS). Since the implementation of the Certification of Drinking-Water System Operators and Water Quality Analysts Regulation (O. Reg. 128/04) and the Licensing of Sewage Works Operators Regulation (O. Reg. 129/04), drinking water and wastewater operators have different training requirements. For Wastewater Operators: Owners of wastewater facilities must provide each operator with 40 hours of training annually. Completion of this training is not required to renew a license, but may be verified during ministry inspections. For Drinking Water Operators and Water Quality Analysts: Drinking water operators must complete 20-50 hours of training annually. This training is required in order to renew an operator’s certificate. Training includes a combination of Director approved “Continuing Education” and on-the-job practical training.
