Funding for clean tech projects

How to get funding to pilot an innovative clean technology.

Note: This program is not accepting applications at this time.

Who is eligible

You could get money through the Innovation Demonstration Fund if your company is:

  • based in Ontario
  • ready to do a pilot-scale demonstration project

Your project is pilot-scale if it falls between bench-scale testing (laboratory model size) and full-size commercial testing.

Eligible sectors and criteria

Your pilot technology must be in a clean tech sub-sector:

  • environmental
  • alternative energy
  • bio-products
  • hydrogen
  • other significant clean technology

It must also:

  • be fully validated (evidence that it works)
  • be innovative
  • have strong commercial potential
  • be competitive and advanced for North America.

Funding amount

You can get up to 50% of your total eligible project costs to a maximum of $4 million.

Total government funding, including Innovation Demonstration funds, cannot be more than 66% of the total eligible project costs.

Step 1: create an account and register as an applicant online.

Step 2: do a self-assessment online to see if you are eligible.

Step 3: complete an application form.

Step 4: complete a business plan (refer to our Business Plan Guide).
