Renew a driver's licence

Driver's LicenceDriver’s licences can be renewed, replaced or have the information displayed on the cards updated at ServiceOntario.

To renew your driver’s licence you will need:

  • Your renewal reminder (application, postcard or email). A renewal reminder is sent to you by mail or email 2 to 3 months before the expiry
  • A personal identification document (verifying your name, date of birth and signature).

Renewing more than four weeks before expiry? Your new driver’s licence will arrive in the mail.

Renewing with less than four weeks until the expiry? You will be given a temporary driver’s licence and your new driver’s licence will arrive in the mail.

Please note: Your renewal reminder will tell you what to do if you do not require a photo, do require an exam, or are over the age of 80.

  • Replace a lost, stolen or damaged driver’s licence: $15
  • Re-take your photo for your driver’s licence: $15
  • Reinstate your driver’s licence: $150
  • Add or remove an age identifier:  $15
  • Change the name, address or sex designation on your driver’s licence: Free

Notice: Starting September 1, 2012, some fees will change for driver and vehicle services. Many fees have not increased for over 15 years.

Changing your name?

If you have recently changed your name you will need to update your driver’s licence at a ServiceOntario centre.

Recently moved?

If you have moved recently you will need to change your address on your driver’s licence.
