Public Consultation

Public consultation is often a requirement of a permit, approval or environmental assessment process.

Part VII of the Mining Act requires proponent of all new mines to give public notice and hold a public information session for mine production. The requirement is at the discretion of the Director of Mine Rehabilitation for advanced exploration. When a closure plan is submitted, notice is placed on the Environmental Registry and the closure plan document is available for review any the public at selected office locations. See myLaws - Public Notice.

Many government approvals and environmental assessment processes require some form of public consultation. Consultation requirements can range from a single notice on the Environmental Registry to mandatory notices in various media and multiple public consultation sessions. For further information, contact the individual ministry or agency involved.
