When Someone Dies - Vehicles, Property, Cards and Registries

If the deceased person is the owner of vehicles and/or property, there are certain notifications and transfer applications that executors may need to complete. The executor should also contact any other government offices concerning cards or other registrations where applicable.

The executor may need to look into the following:

Canadian Automobile Association – Cancelling memberships
Insurance Companies – Automotive insurance cancelling or transferring policies

Provincial

Accessible Parking Permits – Returning valid permits to ServiceOntario
Buying/Selling a Used Vehicle in Ontario – Transferring ownership or selling a vehicle

Property

The executor may need to look into the following:

Federal

Insurance Companies - Cancelling home insurance or transferring policies
Mail to be redirected or mail to be held by your local Post Office

Land Registry Office Locations - Real estate and property title deeds

Land Transfer - Wills and Estates FAQs

Municipal

Ontario municipal websites - Property taxes and account transfers or cancellations for utilities

Places where the deceased volunteered
