Overview
The Ministry of Energy is responsible for promoting the development of a safe, reliable, secure and environmentally sustainable energy supply. This is the foundation for a strong economy and a healthier, cleaner environment in Ontario.
The Ministry is responsible for developing the energy policy framework for Ontario, within which energy market participants and regulators - the Independent Electricity Systems Operator and the Ontario Energy Board - operate. Developing newer, cleaner sources of energy, and promoting energy conservation, are key priorities for the Ministry.
The Ministry also represents the government as shareholder of Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation, both of which are fully owned by the province.
Major Responsibilities
