Overview
The Ministry of Revenue administers the tax statutes, tax credits and benefit programs of Ontario. The tax revenues collected provide the fiscal foundation upon which many of the province's programs are based.
Major Responsibilities
The ministry:
- operates a fair, effective, cost-efficient, confidential tax system which minimizes the regulatory and administrative burden to individuals and businesses;
- maintains the integrity of the province’s self-assessment system by encouraging voluntary compliance through taxpayer education and independent objections review, and carrying out collection activities, audits and investigations;
- supports the implementation of a single corporate tax collection system together with the federal government.
