Additional Deer Seals

This year a total of 15,155 additional deer seals will be available in participating WMUs. Most of these seals will be offered for sale by Internet and through the automated telephone system starting at 8:30 a.m. from July 15 to July 31, 2015, on a first come, first served basis.

During the first sales period, from July 15 to July 22, 2015, hunters may purchase only ONE additional deer seal. Once all hunters have had this opportunity to buy one additional seal, the Internet and telephone system will remain open for a second period, July 23 to July 31, 2015, for hunters wishing to purchase multiple additional deer seals, where available.

For complete information, please refer to the brochure entitled 2015 Application Process for Additional Deer Seals.

Antlerless Deer Quotas

Validation tag quotas for antlerless deer are now available. Use this table to determine gun and archery quotas by Wildlife Management Unit.

The antlerless deer draw closes on June 30. For more information on applying to the antlerless deer draw, refer to the Apply to a big game draw page.

Improvements to surplus moose tag distribution

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is introducing an improved application process for surplus moose tags. Surplus moose validation tags are available first-come, first-served to residents who purchased a 2015 moose licence, applied to the moose draw and were unsuccessful.

To request a tag, check this page in early August to find out which Wildlife Management Units have tags. Then, call 1-800-363-3730 from Monday, August 17 to Wednesday, August 19 at the times listed below. This year we have spread the process over three days. Note the early start on the opening day:

  • August 17 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ET
  • August 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ET
  • August 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ET

We'll update the online list of available tags throughout the phone-in period.

We hope these expanded phone-in times will make the process faster and easier for hunters.

Changes to Moose Hunting in Ontario

To respond to concerns about the moose population, Ontario is reducing moose tags for resident hunters by 15 per cent across the province and shortening the hunting season for moose calves in northern Ontario. The following information is taken from the 2015 Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary:

The complete 2015 Hunting Regulations Summary is now available. Applications to the moose draw will be accepted from April 21 to June 1, 2015.
