The Government of Ontario, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada and the Canadian Consulate General in Detroit, is organizing an export business mission to The Battery Show North America in Detroit, Michigan. This mission will allow Ontario companies to exhibit at this key business event in the electric vehicle sector, with particular emphasis on EV battery technologies.
The Battery Show is the leading North American event for the advanced battery and electric vehicle industries. In 2023, it attracted over 19,000 attendees and 800 exhibiting companies marking a 25% year over year increase compared to the event in 2022.
The Battery Show conference will include presentations on new methods of advanced battery design and the latest technologies, battery manufacturing development, and forecasts of the market supply chain and regulatory outlook. The three-day educational event brings together battery and EV/HEV manufacturers, industry experts, thought leaders, and academics to discuss manufacturing, supply chain and production challenges. The expo will include technologies ranging from battery components and assembly to battery management systems, charging infrastructure, drivetrains, software and thermal management and vehicle manufacturing. Key sponsors and exhibitors include Honeywell, BASF, Dana, DuPont, BorgWarner, Siemens, 3M and Eaton. Attendees include engineers and senior management from Tesla, BMW, Toyota, Honda, Audi, Mercedes, Nissan, Duracell and Interstate.
While the overall passenger car market in the US was down 18% in 2022, registrations of electric vehicles increased 60%. The market size in 2022 is now estimated to be over US$49 billion, and it is expected to grow to US$70.1 billion in 2023. The US is looking to retake its position as the most important global automotive manufacturing market and is targeting electric vehicle technologies as a key sub-sector to allow it to overtake competing markets. Participating in The Battery Show will allow Ontario suppliers to market their products and technologies to key US decision makers in the automotive supply chain.
