About us

The Ontario Digital Service (ODS) is part of Privacy, Archives, Digital and Data within the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. We work to improve the online experience for Ontarians by making services more convenient, intuitive, and easy to use. The Digital Innovation and Product Division builds the capacity and practices to drive digital adoption in the OPS by leading the delivery of key components and products needed to incubate and accelerate user centered delivery across government. Ontario Digital Service chapters provide digital innovation expertise, and skills that support the transformation of government services. The Technology chapter provides application architecture and technical advice, front/back-end development, dev/ops security.

As the Engineering Manager, you will:

  • manage high-impact teams that promote digital transformation within government using user-centric design strategies, agile development approach, DevOps culture and modern technology trends.

  • manage, lead and implement complex technology solutions with a hands-on approach to all aspects of the software development life cycle.
  • demonstrate the leadership behaviours, attributes and mindset for leaders, across the organization, to lead the OPS into the future and deliver our vision.

How do I qualify?

Strategic Leadership Skills:

  • You have leadership experience with the ability to inspire, engage, motivate, develop and mentor technical staff to deliver on results during on-going change and transformation.
  • You are a collaborative leader and have incorporated the principles of diversity, inclusion and anti-racism across all elements of your management style.
  • You demonstrate good judgement, political acuity and organizational awareness in managing issues and priorities.
  • You have a digital mindset and proven success in fostering an environment of continuous improvement, creativity and excellence.

Technical Expertise and Specialized Knowledge:

  • You are experienced in Web and Mobile App (iOS, Android) development and deployment, coding (e.g., React, JavaScript), automation and quality assurance activities.
  • You have built/led complex modern technology solutions for Web, Mobile (Android or iOS), Cloud infrastructure, Security, Automation, DevOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment, Data Integration, APIs, Test Automation, UI/UX and Platforms.
  • You develop simple solutions to sophisticated problems with a strong sense of engineering as a craft.
  • You have knowledge of project management methodologies to plan and manage research/analysis projects to deliver results.

Strategic Planning and Delivery:

  • You can create a clear technology vision and translate it into a practical and implementable technology roadmap.
  • You possess strong analytical, negotiation, problem solving and operational decision-making skills to influence others to find business oriented and collaborative solutions for complex issues.
  • You have demonstrated ability to get buy-in from a team to implement new and improved ways of doing things.
  • You have a strategic mindset and can balance both short-term and long-term objectives in a matrix structure.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

  • You have demonstrated communication skills to conduct presentations and briefings.
  • You seek diverse perspectives to promote bottom-up innovation and create buy-in from all technical stakeholders.
  • You can meaningfully collaborate with a variety of teams, stakeholders, employees, and clients and can resolve conflict constructively and diplomatically.
  • You have demonstrated ability to work with vendors with knowledge of procurements, contracts negotiations and service level agreements.
