The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) submitted a request on August 31, 1999 for a Declaration Order to allow the establishment of new provincial parks and conservation reserves identified in the Ontario Living Legacy Land Use Strategy and the Temagami Land use documents be declared not subject to the Environmental Assessment Act. Through the Living Legacy Land Use Strategy, 378 parks and reserves will be expanded or created over the next 20 years. The MNR anticipates proceeding with the establishment of between 40-67 new or expanded parks or reserves in 2000 . As the activity of regulating new parks and reserves is subject the to Environmental Assessment Act, the MNR is requesting a Declaration Order to eliminate the delay of preparing an individual environmental assessment. The declaration order was granted on February 2, 2000.
