Amending O. Reg. 257/00

(GENERAL)

1. Section 5 of Ontario Regulation 257/00 is amended by adding the following subsection:

(6) Despite subsection (1), during a period when an emergency has been declared to exist throughout Ontario under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, the operator of a land ambulance service may employ or engage, or continue to employ or engage, a person who does not meet the requirements set out in clause 7 (4) (b), but who has successfully completed a program referred to in clause 7 (4) (a), to provide patient care as an emergency medical attendant on a full-time or part-time basis or as a full-time volunteer, and the operator may continue to employ or engage such a person for a period of 420 consecutive days after the completion of the program, even if the declaration of emergency has ceased to apply.

2. Section 6 of the Regulation is amended by adding the following subsection:

(2) The requirement in clause (1) (j) to be re-certified at 12-month intervals does not apply,

(a) during a period when an emergency has been declared to exist throughout Ontario under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act; and

(b) during the three-month period after the declaration of emergency has ceased to apply.

3. Subsection 7 (1) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “or” at the end of clause (b), by adding “or” at the end of clause (c) and by adding the following clause:

(d) the qualification of being currently registered as a student in a paramedic program of a College of Applied Arts and Technology or an institution approved by the Director, during a period when an emergency has been declared to exist throughout Ontario under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and during the six-month period after the declaration of emergency has ceased to apply.

4. Section 8 of the Regulation is amended by adding the following subsection:

(6) The requirement in clause (2) (b) that an advanced care paramedic have obtained a pass standing in an advanced care paramedic examination set or approved by the Director does not apply during a period when an emergency has been declared to exist throughout Ontario under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and during the six-month period after the declaration of emergency has ceased to apply.

5. This Regulation comes into force on the day it is filed.
