Designation of Diseases

Designated diseases

1. For the purposes of the Act, a disease set out in Column 1 of the Table is designated as a disease of public health significance and,

(a) a communicable disease, if it is identified as such in Column 2 of the Table; and

(b) a virulent disease, if it is identified as such in Column 3 of the Table.

Diseases against which immunizing agents are used

2. The following diseases are specified as diseases for the purposes of the definition of “immunizing agent” in subsection 38 (1) of the Act:

1. Diphtheria.

2. Haemophilus influenzae b.

3. Hepatitis A.

4. Hepatitis B.

5. Herpes Zoster.

6. Human Papillomavirus.

7. Influenza.

8. Japanese encephalitis.

9. Measles.

10. Meningococcal.

11. Mumps.

12. Pertussis.

13. Pneumococcal.

14. Poliomyelitis.

15. Rabies.

16. Rotavirus.

17. Rubella.

18. Smallpox.

19. Tetanus.

20. Travellers’ diarrhea.

21. Tuberculosis.

22. Typhoid Fever.

23. Varicella.

24. Yellow Fever.

Revocations

3. The following Regulations are revoked:

1. Ontario Regulation 558/91 (Specification of Communicable Diseases).

2. Ontario Regulation 559/91 (Specification of Reportable Diseases).

3. Ontario Regulation 95/03 (Specification of Virulent Diseases).

Commencement

4. (1) Subject to subsection (2), this Regulation comes into force on the later of the day subsection 14 (4) of Schedule 3 to the Strengthening Quality and Accountability for Patients Act, 2017 comes into force and the day this Regulation is filed.

(2) Section 2 comes into force on the later of the day subsection 2 (5) of Schedule 3 to the Strengthening Quality and Accountability for Patients Act, 2017 comes into force and the day this Regulation is filed.
