Amending O. Reg. 86/24

(SPECIAL CONSTABLE UNIFORMS)

1. (1) Paragraph 1 of subsection 1 (1) of Ontario Regulation 86/24 is revoked and the following substituted:

1. The uniform, except for a stripe mentioned in paragraph 2, must be of a colour that is readily distinguishable from the colour of the uniform typically worn by police officers and First Nation Officers performing community patrol functions in the area where the special constable normally performs their duties.

(2) Paragraph 2 of subsection 1 (1) of the Regulation is revoked.

(3) Subsection 1 (1) of the Regulation is amended by adding the following paragraph:

2. If the uniform includes pants or shorts that have a stripe running along the length of the legs of the garment, the stripe must be the same colour for all special constables employed by the same employer and must be of a colour that is readily distinguishable from the colour of any stripe running along the length of the legs of the pants or shorts typically worn as part of uniforms for the following:

i. Police officers and First Nation Officers performing community patrol functions in the area where the special constable normally performs their duties.

ii. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police who are police officers, not including police officers who are appointed under the Interprovincial Policing Act, 2009.

Commencement

2. (1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, this Regulation comes into force on the later of October 1, 2025 and the day this Regulation is filed.

(2) Subsection 1 (2) comes into force on the day this Regulation is filed.
