EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Explanatory Note was written as a reader’s aid to Bill 42 and does not form part of the law.  Bill 42 has been enacted as Chapter 2 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2004.

The Bill amends the Legislative Assembly Act by adding new section 61.1, which provides that despite anything else in the Act and despite anything done under the Act, members’ annual salaries shall remain as they were on October 2, 2003, and there shall be no increases with respect to the period that began on that date and ends on March 31, 2005.

An Act to amend the
Legislative Assembly Act
to freeze the salaries of members
of the Assembly until the end of
fiscal year 2004-2005

Assented to April 15, 2004

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. The Legislative Assembly Act is amended by adding the following section:

Salary freeze until end of fiscal year 2004-2005

61.1 Despite anything else in this Act and despite anything done under this Act,

(a) the annual salary of a member, until April 1, 2005, shall remain the same as it was on October 2, 2003; and

(b) there shall be no increase in the annual salary of a member with respect to the period that began on October 2, 2003 and ends on March 31, 2005.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the MPP Salary Freeze Act, 2004.
