EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Explanatory Note was written as a reader’s aid to Bill 97 and does not form part of the law.  Bill 97 has been enacted as Chapter 18 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2008.

The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 is amended to place a duty on the Colleges of regulated health professions to work in consultation with the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care to ensure, as a matter of public interest, that the people of Ontario have access to adequate numbers of qualified, skilled and competent regulated health professionals.

An Act to increase access to qualified health professionals for all Ontarians by amending the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991

Assented to November 27, 2008

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. Schedule 2 to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 is amended by adding the following section:

Duty of College

2.1 It is the duty of the College to work in consultation with the Minister to ensure, as a matter of public interest, that the people of Ontario have access to adequate numbers of qualified, skilled and competent regulated health professionals.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Increasing Access to Qualified Health Professionals for Ontarians Act, 2008.
