Guatemala’s Strategic Advantage: Your Next Trade and Export Hub

Sector: Multi-sector

Market Region: Latin America

Date: May 29, 2025 (11:00-12:00, EST)

The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Guatemala in Toronto and the Trade Commissioner Service of Canada in Guatemala, is pleased to invite Ontario-based companies to a complimentary webinar.

This virtual event will feature a presentation by the Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Guatemala in Canada, who will highlight Guatemala’s growing trade relationship with Canada, its competitive regional advantages, and the opportunities available for companies looking to expand their export markets or establish a regional presence in Latin America.

The webinar will explore key strategic trade themes, including Guatemala’s extensive network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and its pivotal geostrategic location in the Americas. As a signatory to multiple FTAs, with partners such as the United States, the European Union, and Central American countries, Guatemala provides preferential access to more than 1.5 billion consumers worldwide. These agreements reduce tariffs, streamline customs procedures, and provide a stable legal framework for international trade, making Guatemala an increasingly attractive market for Canadian exporters.

Additionally, Guatemala’s position as a natural gateway to Central America, with access to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, reinforces its role as an emerging logistics and trade hub. With expanding industrial parks, modern infrastructure, and well-connected trade corridors, the country offers a strategic platform for companies aiming to scale their operations across the region. Investment opportunities in sectors that support trade, such as logistics, distribution, and manufacturing, further strengthen Guatemala’s position as a key commercial partner.
