The Government of Ontario is hosting a webinar in collaboration with DataStream and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. Access to centralized water data is essential for managing water threats such a pollution and other contaminants, aging infrastructure, and climate change. These platforms aim to foster collaboration in creating, operating, and maintaining cohesive water data platforms for multi-purpose use.
DataStream is Canada’s foremost source for open water data. Since 2016, DataStream has rapidly grown into a network of more than 400 data contributors, including Indigenous, federal, provincial and territorial governments, academic researchers, watershed organizations and citizen science programs. Katherine Balpataky, Executive Director of DataStream, works with the team to foster strategic partnerships across Canada. She has been working in the water sector for 20+ years as a policy analyst, fundraiser and communication specialist.
The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is a nonprofit contributing to research and creative approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. The Lincoln Institute's Center for Geospatial Solutions (CGS) operates the Internet of Water. Kyle Onda, Director for the Internet of Water at CGS, works with his team to develop technology and foster partnerships across North American water data providers including government agencies, researchers, and watershed organizations through standardized, accessible data systems. He has been working in the water sector for 15+ years with expertise spanning environmental engineering, urban planning, public health, and geospatial technology. Prior to joining CGS, Kyle served as lead data architect for the Internet of Water project at Duke University.
