India’s aerospace and defence (A&D) sector is undergoing rapid transformation, with the market projected to reach approximately $70 billion by 2030. This growth is driven by the modernization of defence services, strong government support, and increased private sector participation in aerospace and defence manufacturing. The sector spans the production of aircraft, ships, spacecraft, weapon systems, and other advanced defence equipment, fostering the development of globally competitive manufacturing capabilities and technologically advanced facilities.
At the same time, India’s aviation sector is on a steep growth trajectory. The country is expected to become the world’s third-largest aviation market by 2030, with passenger traffic projected to reach 440–450 million by FY2026. To support this expansion, the Government of India has committed approximately CAD$16 billion toward aviation infrastructure by 2027, including the development of 21 greenfield airports and the modernization of more than 100 terminals. With over 50 new airports currently under development, significant opportunities are emerging for international partnerships in infrastructure, technology, and services.
India’s aviation expansion strongly aligns with Ontario’s strengths in innovation, advanced manufacturing, sustainability and defence priorities.
