Ontario companies seeking to expand globally have a powerful but often underutilized pathway: procurement opportunities funded by international financial institutions (IFIs). 

The Government of Ontario and Global Affairs Canada will host a webinar exploring how IFIs may serve as strategic entry points for exporters looking to access African markets. 

East Africa’s energy landscape is largely shaped by the need to expand electricity access, particularly in rural and underserved areas, creating strong potential for renewable energy -- including geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar, as well as decentralized solutions like mini-grids. In contrast, many West African countries face more acute power deficits, where unreliable grid infrastructure limits consistent electricity supply and constrains economic activity. In certain major markets in Africa, a large share of businesses rely on self-generated power due to frequent outages and insufficient grid capacity. All told, roughly 600 million people in Africa still lack access to electricity, underscoring the scale of opportunity for energy investment and innovation.
