EXTENDING TIME PERIODS IN ONTARIO REGULATIONS

Extensions
Driver’s licence and combined photo card
1. (1) If a combined photo card issued under the Photo Card Act, 2008 expires on or after the day this Regulation comes into force, the validity of the driver’s licence is extended until the day this Regulation is revoked.
(2) If a combined photo card issued under the Photo Card Act, 2008 expired on or after March 1, 2020 and before the day this Regulation comes into force, the driver’s licence is deemed to have been renewed on the day this Regulation comes into force and the validity of the driver’s licence continues until the day this Regulation is revoked, unless the driver’s licence is otherwise suspended or cancelled.
Time periods extended
2. (1) A time period described in a provision specified in sections 3 to 7 of this Regulation that would, but for this Regulation, expire on or after the day this Regulation comes into force, is extended until the day this Regulation is revoked.
(2) An expiry date described in a provision specified in sections 3 to 7 of this Regulation that would, but for this Regulation, occur on or after the day this Regulation comes into force, is extended until the day this Regulation is revoked.
(3) Despite anything in a regulation set out in subsection (6), if the term of validity of a licence, certificate or permit set out in subsection (5) expires on or after the day this Regulation comes into force, the term of validity is extended until the day this Regulation is revoked.
(4) Despite anything in a regulation set out in subsection (6), if the term of validity of a licence, certificate or permit set out in subsection (5) ceased to be valid on or after March 1, 2020 but before the day this Regulation comes into force, the licence, certificate or permit is deemed to have been renewed on the day this Regulation comes into force and the validity of the licence, certificate or permit continues until the day this Regulation is revoked.
(5) The licences, certificates and permits referred to in subsections (3) and (4) are the following:
1. A driver’s licence, including a temporary driver’s licence or novice driver’s licence.
2. A driving instructor licence.
3. A driving school licence.
4. A CVOR certificate.
5. A permit for a motor vehicle, including a special permit or temporary validation.
6. A safety standards certificate, including a structural inspection certificate.
7. Annual inspection stickers and semi-annual inspection stickers.
(6) The regulations referred to in subsections (3) and (4) are the following:
1. Regulation 611 of the Revised Regulations of Ontario, 1990 (Safety Inspections) made under the Act.
2. Regulation 628 of the Revised Regulations of Ontario, 1990 (Vehicle Permits) made under the Act.
3. Ontario Regulation 340/94 (Drivers’ Licences) made under the Act.
4. Ontario Regulation 424/97 (Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators’ Information) made under the Act.
5. Ontario Regulation 473/07 (Licences for Driving Instructors and Driving Schools) made under the Act.
(7) Subsection (4) does not apply to renew or continue the validity of a driver’s licence that is suspended.
(8) Subsection (4) does not apply to a CVOR certificate that has been suspended, cancelled or made subject to a fleet limitation certificate by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles under section 47 of the Act.

Ontario Regulation 601 — Motor Vehicle Inspection Stations

8. A licensee of a motor vehicle inspection station is deemed to be in compliance with the condition of the licence respecting safety standards certificates, annual inspection certificates, semi-annual inspection certificates and structural inspection certificates set out in clause 5 (c) of Regulation 601 of the Revised Regulations of Ontario, 1990 (Motor Vehicle Inspection Stations) made under the Act if the licensee issues a copy of the certificate in the form supplied by the Ministry that is in all material respects a likeness of that form.

The Act
9. Every owner of a motor vehicle who became a resident of Ontario in the 30 days immediately preceding the day this regulation comes into force is exempt from the provisions of section 7 of the Act until the day this Regulation is revoked, provided that the owner has complied with the requirements set out in subsection 15 (2) of the Act.
