STANDARDS TO DETERMINE ALLOWABLE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT FOR BRIDGES

1. In this Regulation,

“Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code” means the “Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code” designated as CAN/CSA-S6-00 published by the Canadian Standards Association and the “Commentary on CAN/CSA-S6-00, the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code” published by the Canadian Standards Association, as they may be amended from time to time; (“Code canadien sur le calcul des ponts routiers”)

“professional engineer” means a person who holds a licence or a temporary licence issued under the Professional Engineers Act to engage in the practice of professional engineering, but does not include a person who holds a limited licence issued under that Act. 2. For the purpose of subsection 123 (2) of the Act, a determination of a limit on the gross vehicle weight of vehicles passing over a bridge shall,

(a) be made in accordance with the provisions of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code;

(b) be signed and sealed by two professional engineers who have determined and set out the maximum allowable load limit at which the bridge may be posted, and the period of time for which the determination remains valid; and

(c) precede the enactment of any by-law, where the by-law comes into force after the date on which this Regulation comes into force.  O. Reg. 103/97, s. 2; O. Reg. 159/02, s. 2.
