Amending Reg. 552 of R.R.O. 1990

(GENERAL)

1. (1) Subsection 1 (1) of Regulation 552 of the Revised Regulations of Ontario, 1990 is amended by adding the following definition:

“aboriginal midwife” means an aboriginal person who provides traditional midwifery services to aboriginal persons or members of an aboriginal community;

(2) The definition of “schedule of benefits” in subsection 1 (1) of the Regulation is amended by adding the following paragraph:

38. Amendments dated January 24, 2022 (effective as of November 1, 2021);

(3) The definition of “schedule of benefits” in subsection 1 (1) of the Regulation, as amended by subsection (2), is amended by adding the following paragraph:

39. Amendments dated January 25, 2022 (effective as of July 1, 2022);

2. (1) Clause 22 (1) (a) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “midwife or registered nurse” and substituting “midwife, aboriginal midwife or registered nurse”.

(2) Clause 22 (2) (b) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “midwife or registered nurse” wherever it appears and substituting in each case “midwife, aboriginal midwife or registered nurse”.

3. (1) Paragraph 8 of subsection 38.4 (1) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “midwife, registered nurse” and substituting “midwife, aboriginal midwife, registered nurse”.

(2) Paragraph 10 of subsection 38.4 (1) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “midwife” wherever it appears and substituting in each case “midwife or aboriginal midwife”. 

4. The definition of “Ontario Health Insurance Plan identification number” in section 38.5 of the Regulation is amended by striking out “midwife, medical director” and substituting “midwife, aboriginal midwife, medical director”.

Commencement

5. (1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, this Regulation comes into force on the day it is filed.

(2) Subsection 1 (2) is deemed to have come into force on November 1, 2021.

(3) Subsections 1 (1) and (3) and sections 2 to 4 come into force on July 1, 2022, or if this Regulation is filed after that day, they are deemed to have come into force on that day.
