Initial training
1. (1) Every municipal police officer shall, within six months of his or her appointment, successfully complete the Basic Constable Training Program at the Ontario Police College as his or her initial training.
(2) In the case of a police officer who previously completed a program of recruit police training in another province or territory and who successfully completed a probationary period in the other province or territory equivalent to the probationary period under section 44 of the Act, the Director of the Ontario Police College may, within six months of the police officer’s appointment to an Ontario municipal police force, exempt the police officer from the requirement in subsection (1) if, in the Director’s opinion, the police officer’s qualifications and skills are substantially equivalent to those that would be obtained in the Basic Constable Training Program.
(3) In exempting a police officer under subsection (2), the Director may require the police officer to complete other specified courses or examinations, or both, to ensure that the police officer’s qualifications and skills will be equivalent to those that would be obtained in the Basic Constable Training Program.
(4) The Director of the Ontario Police College shall issue a certificate of completion to every person who,
(a) successfully completes the Basic Constable Training Program; or
(b) having been exempted under subsection (2), successfully completes the courses and examinations specified under subsection (3), if any.
