Amending O. Reg. 667/98

(TRAPPING)

1. Clause 8 (1) (b) of Ontario Regulation 667/98 is amended by striking out “and” at the end and substituting “or”.

2. The definition of “Canadian citizen” in subsection 11 (6) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “Immigration Act” and substituting “Immigration and Refugee Protection Act”.

3. Clause 18 (2) (b) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “lynx” at the beginning and substituting “bobcat or lynx”.

4. Subsections 18.1 (3) and (4) of the Regulation are revoked and the following substituted:

(3) A person who uses any of the following traps to trap muskrat shall ensure that the trap meets the following requirements:

1. In the case of a jaw-type killing trap or a jaw-type leg-hold trap, the trap must exert clamping force on the animal and be set as a submersion set in a manner consistent with clause 19 (2) (c) or subsection 19 (3).

2. In the case of any other type of certified killing trap set out for trapping muskrat in Column 3 of Schedule 1, the trap must be set on land.

(4) A person who uses any of the following traps to trap lynx shall ensure that the trap meets the following requirements:

1. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #3 Soft Catch, the trap must be equipped with either two coil springs or four coil springs.

2. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #3, the trap must be equipped with a minimum of 8 mm thick, non-offset steel jaws, four coil springs and an anchoring swivel centre mounted on a base plate.

(5) A person who uses any of the following traps to trap bobcat shall ensure that the trap meets the following requirements:

1. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #1.5 Soft Catch, the trap must be equipped with four coil springs.

2. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #1.75, the trap must be equipped with offset, laminated jaws and two coil springs.

3. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #3, the trap must be equipped with 3/16 inch offset, double rounded steel jaw laminations (3/16 inch on the topside of the jaw and 1/4 inch on the underside of the jaw) and two coil springs.

4. In the case of the trap known as the Oneida Victor #3 Soft Catch, the trap must be equipped with either two coil springs or four coil springs.

5. (1) Clause 19 (2) (a) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “for a bobcat, coyote or wolf” at the beginning and substituting “for a coyote or wolf”.

(2) Clause 19 (2) (a.1) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “for lynx or raccoon” at the beginning and substituting “for bobcat, lynx or raccoon”.

6. Schedule 1 to the Regulation is amended by adding the following items:
