Amending O. Reg. 58/15

(VEAL CATTLE - MARKETING)

1. (1) The definition of “veal cattle” in section 1 of Ontario Regulation 58/15 is revoked and the following substituted:

“veal cattle” means cattle produced in Ontario that consists of,

(a)  male calves or freemartin female calves of any dairy breed or crossbreed, each weighing no more than 150 pounds (68 kilograms),

(b)  intact male calves of any dairy breed or crossbreed, each weighing no more than 450 pounds (204.1 kilograms),

(c)  calves of any breed, each weighing no more than 769 pounds (348.8 kilograms), that are sold for slaughter at an auction or through a livestock dealer, or

(d)  calves of any breed that are sold for slaughter to a processor to be processed into a veal carcass within the meaning of section 304 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (Canada). (“veaux de boucherie”)

(2) Section 1 of the Regulation is amended by adding the following subsection:

(2) A calf described in clause (d) of the definition of “veal cattle” in subsection (1) is veal cattle for the purposes of this Regulation even if the calf is not in fact graded as a veal carcass after being sold.

2. This Regulation comes into force on the day it is filed.
