Amending O. Reg. 347/02

(ACCREDITATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS)

1. The definition of “permitted institution” in subsection 1 (1) of Ontario Regulation 347/02 is revoked and the following substituted:

“permitted institution” means,

(a)  a college, faculty or school of education in Ontario that is part of or affiliated with a university that is authorized to offer degrees under an Act of the Assembly,

(b)  an entity authorized under the Post-secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000 to,

(i)  offer a program of professional education leading to a degree within the meaning of that Act, or

(ii)  operate or maintain a university, or

(c)  an entity authorized under the Indigenous Institutes Act, 2017 to offer a program of professional education leading to a diploma, certificate or degree; (“établissement autorisé”)

2. (1) Subsection 15.3 (2) of the Regulation is revoked and the following substituted:

(2) Subject to the powers of the Accreditation Committee under sections 16 and 18 to 21 and the powers of the Accreditation Appeal Committee under section 44, a program of professional education that was accredited or accredited with conditions immediately before May 1, 2027,

(a)  continues to be accredited until September 30, 2028, if the provider commenced delivery of the program before May 1, 2027; and

(b)  is deemed to remain accredited or accredited with conditions, as the case may be, until the Accreditation Committee issues a decision under subsection (6) if the provider,

(i)  commenced delivery of the program on or after May 1, 2027, and

(ii)  submits an attestation under subsection (3) and a verification report under subsection (4).

(2.1) Subsection (2) does not apply unless,

(a)  in the case of a program described in clause (2) (a), it satisfies the requirements set out in subsection 9 (1) as it read immediately before May 1, 2027; or

(b)  in the case of a program described in clause (2) (b), it satisfies the requirements set out in subsection 9 (1).

(2) Subsection 15.3 (4) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “A provider offering a program of professional education that is accredited, or accredited with conditions, as of May 1, 2027” at the beginning and substituting “A provider offering a program of professional education that commences on or after May 1, 2027 and that is accredited or is deemed to be accredited, with or without conditions under subsection (2), as of that date”.

3. Subsection 27 (3) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “his or her” and substituting “their”.

4. Section 29.1 of the Regulation is amended by striking out “he or she” wherever it appears and substituting in each case “the Registrar”.

5. (1) Subsection 31 (3) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “his or her” in the portion before clause (a) and substituting “the Registrar’s”.

(2) Clause 31 (4) (a) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “he or she” and substituting “the Registrar”.

6. Subsection 43 (6) of the Regulation is amended by striking out “he or she” and substituting “the member”.

Commencement

7. This Regulation comes into force on the day it is filed.
