EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Explanatory Note was written as a reader’s aid to Bill 142 and does not form part of the law.  Bill 142 has been enacted as Chapter 14 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2005.

The Bill amends the Highway Traffic Act to expand the function of school crossing guards to cover directing the movement of all persons across a highway, not just the movement of children as at present.

An Act to amend the
Highway Traffic Act
with respect to
school crossing guards

Assented to June 13, 2005

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. (1) The definition of “school crossing guard” in subsection 176 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act is amended by striking out the word “children” in the portion before clause (a) and substituting “persons”.

(2) Subsection 176 (2) of the Act is amended by striking out the word “children” and substituting “persons”.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Highway Traffic Amendment Act (School Crossing Guards), 2005.
