Part III: Pre-competition requirements
1. Weigh-ins
- Requirements for Weigh-ins
- Photography or filming is not permitted in the weigh-in areas. This includes the use of mobile phones and other devices.
- The Weigh-in Official must attend the weigh-in to ensure accurate weight measurement and recording.
- Weigh-ins may be done in a public area, however competitors must wear judogi pants and t-shirt and the gender of the Weigh-in Official does not matter.
- If running a mixed gender/non-binary division, public area weigh-in option is required.
- Any weigh-ins allowing wearing only underwear (men/boys – underpants, women/girls – underpants and bra) must be in separate boys/mens and girls/womens weigh-in facilities, with Weigh-in Officials of the same gender.
- U12 and below must weigh-in in Judogi pants and T-shirt.
- For U12 and below, if the weigh-ins are not in public view, it is recommended that all competitors U12 and below are accompanied to the weigh-in by a coach, parent or guardian of the same gender.
- Athletes U14 and older shall weigh in wearing only underclothing (men/boys – underpants and optional T-shirt , women/girls – underpants and bra and/or optional t-shirt). Any socks, jewelry or body piercings must be removed. For this age group, a tolerance of 200 g is applied to accommodate for the weight of the underclothing and optional T-shirt. Athletes of these age divisions are not allowed to remove their underclothing.
- A 200 g Allowance for undergarments is permitted for athletes that must wear under garments.
- For public weigh-ins where athletes must wear Judogi pants and T-shirt, a recommended allowance of 600 g for U10–U14, 800 g for U16–U21 and 1 kg for Senior and Veterans may be permitted and clarified in the technical document for the tournament.
- The Weigh-in Official(s) must not recommend a competitor remove any clothing to make weight beyond that of judo pants and a T-shirt.
- The coach must not recommend a competitor remove any clothing to make weight beyond that of judo pants and a T-shirt.
- Any socks, jewelry or body piercings must be removed.
- Unofficial scales may be made available one hour prior to the scheduled weigh-in time. Only one time on the official scales are permitted.
- The official weigh-in should end a minimum of one hour prior to the start of the division. It is understood however, that from time-to-time exceptional circumstances, such as inclement weather causing a delay in competitor arrival, may require the weigh-in period to be extended.
- Contestant’s weight must be within the lower and upper limits of the class for which they are registered, except for the lightest weight and heaviest weight divisions or within the 15% rule.
- The official weight must be recorded on the entry/registration form and actual weight of the contestants, including heavy weights, must be entered on the weigh-in sheet, together with the signatures and initials of the weigh-in official. “+100” etc., is not an acceptable recorded weight.
- Weights are to be recorded to the first decimal place.
- At tournaments where competitors are pre-registered, any competitor who does not show up at the weigh-in will be disqualified. It is at the Tournament Director’s discretion whether a refund will be given or not.
