Plate Renewal:
- To renew your motor vehicle licence plate you need to purchase a licence plate validation sticker.
- You can select either a one-year or two-year renewal term.

- Before you can purchase your licence plate validation sticker, you must pay any outstanding denials (DFCC payments, NSF fees and Highway 407 tolls).
- You can renew your plate up to six months in advance of the plate validation expiry.
- When you renew your licence plate using this service, your plate validation sticker will be mailed to you at the address we have on file or to the delivery address you provide.
- To complete your plate renewal you will need:
- Your licence plate number
- A valid credit card
- A printer to print your transaction receipt.
Depending on the information on file, you may also need to provide:
- Your vehicle inspection certificate number
- Your insurance company
- Your insurance policy number
- Your odometer reading
- Your licence plate validation sticker will be delivered in approximately 5 business days.
Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP):
The Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP) provides an Ontario history of a specific vehicle. This package contains vehicle registration history in Ontario, vehicle lien information (i.e. if there are any liens registered on the vehicle in Ontario), the fair market value on which the minimum tax payable will apply and other information such as consumer tips, vehicle safety standards inspection, retail sales tax information and forms for bills of sale.
- A UVIP is required for most transfers of motorcycles, passenger and light commercial vehicles between individuals.
- The private seller of a used motor vehicle is required to purchase a UVIP. Unless the types of vehicle and transfer situations are exempt, the seller is required to give the purchaser this package at the time of sale.
- Some types of vehicle and transfer situations are exempt from this requirement. One example of an exemption from providing this package is transfers between linear family members (excluding siblings). Linear family members have been defined as father, mother, stepmother, stepfather, spouse, grandfather, grandmother, son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter, step-grandson, step-granddaughter, grandson, granddaughter, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law. For further information on possible exemptions, please contact the ministry at 1-800-387-3445 or 416-235-2999 (GTA).
- The purchaser must present the UVIP to the Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office when transferring the vehicle registration.
- The UVIP you request will be mailed to you at the address we have on file or the delivery address you provide.
- To complete your UVIP request you will need:
The vehicle identification number or the licence plate number of the used vehicle.
- If possible, it is recommended you enter the vehicle identification number. If you enter a licence plate number, a UVIP will be created for the vehicle that plate is currently attached to according to MTO's records.

Personalized Licence Plate:
- Individuals can purchase personalized licence plates for vehicles.
- These plates can contain up to eight characters (alpha, numeric or both) without a graphic, and up to six characters with a graphic.
- Motorcycle plates can be ordered with a maximum of five characters and cannot include a graphic. Personalized plates cannot be registered to limited speed motorcycles.

- When you purchase a personalized licence plate using this service, your licence plate will be mailed to you at the address we have on file or the delivery address you provide.
- To complete the purchase of your personalized licence plate you will need:
- Your driver's licence number or registrant identification number.
- A valid credit card.
- A printer to print your receipt
- Once your plate choice has been submitted, your plate must still pass a review committee, which may reject the plate if it is considered to be objectionable, for example:
- derogatory
- profane
- racist
- sexual
- religious
- Your personalized licence plate will be delivered in approximately eight to ten weeks.

Driver Abstracts:
Uncertified driver abstracts can be used for personal, insurance, and employment purposes. You may request a three-year driver record abstract for a driver with an Ontario driver's licence.
- The abstract document(s) is presented electronically at the end of your session as a pdf document. Nothing will be mailed to you. To access the pdf document (s), you will need the free Adobe Reader. If the Adobe Reader is not installed on the computer you are using, download a free version of Adobe Reader.
- Abstracts requested through this service are uncertified.

The three-year uncertified driver abstract contains:
- Driver identification (i.e. name, driver's licence number, date of birth, gender, height, class, conditions, but not address)
- Licence status
- Expiry date
- Medical due date (controlled class only)
- Earliest available licence date
- Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code (Canada) convictions, suspensions and reinstatements over the past three years, the conviction dates and any demerit points accumulated
- Active defaulted fine suspensions

A vehicle abstract is a document containing registered owner and vehicle information for a specific vehicle. You can request a variety of vehicle abstracts depending on the type of information you are seeking.
Note that vehicle abstracts do not contain any:

- Collision information
- The abstract document(s) is presented electronically at the end of your session as a pdf document. Nothing will be mailed to you. - Date(s) the vehicle was registered to each registrant
- Vehicle status.

The plate history abstract contains a complete history of a specific licence plate number.
The abstract contains the following information, which is retrieved using the licence plate number:
- Names of all current and previous registered owners (of the plate)
- Driver's licence and/or registrant identification number of all current and previous registered owners (of the plate)
- Vehicle identification number and full description of all vehicles attached to the specified plate
- Plate number
- Plate status
- Registration date

Collection of Personal Information
Personal information is collected by the Ministry of Transportation under the authority of section 205 of the Highway Traffic Act. The information is used for creating a record that is maintained as public record and used for the administration of the Ministry's driver, vehicle and carrier programs. Notwithstanding the above and subject to the paragraph below, residence address information which is collected is not part of public record and is not available to the general public.
Only "authorized" requestors who have been approved and have entered into a contractual agreement with the Ministry may obtain residence address information for the purposes set out below:
- Safety recalls by auto manufacturers
- Law enforcement
- Service of documents and for legal investigations which may give rise to legal proceedings (i.e., from lawyers, process servers, private investigators and security guards and for locating persons in connection with claims/ litigation/ accidents)
- Verification of information by financial institutions
- Debt collection
- Road toll collection (i.e., 407-ETR)
- Postal code verification (first three digits only)
- Key tag service (War Amps)
- Automobile insurance purposes
- Parking violations
- Government use for program delivery where authorized by statute
- Statistical/Educational (research by educational, research organizations)
- Public Interest - for example, compassionate circumstances to facilitate contacting next of kin or friend of individual who is in crisis, injured, ill or deceased, with confirmation by police or medical practitioner.
