The Ministry of the Environment (MOE) is the lead ministry responsible for protecting, restoring and enhancing the environment to ensure public health and environmental quality. The ministry safeguards our environment by working toward cleaner air, water and land, and healthier ecosystems for the people of Ontario.
MOE has built a strong foundation of clear laws, stringent regulations, tough standards and rigorous permits and approvals. Guided by an ethic of continuous improvement and a commitment to innovation and leadership in environmental management, the ministry builds on this foundation by working with others to help them move beyond compliance.
MOE monitors pollution to assess risks to human health and the environment. This information is used to develop and implement environmental legislation, policies, guidelines and programs that are monitored and implemented through inspection, investigation and enforcement activities.
