Environmental Assessment
The Town of Kenora submitted an environmental assessment on behalf of the Town of Keewatin, the Town of Jaffray Melick and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in December, 1996. In addition to these three municipalities, service will also be extended to 37 unorganized townships as well as seasonal users in the area. The proposed landfill will be operational for a 40 year period. The preferred site is located in the unorganized Townships of Pettypiece and Jackman. The site will be accepting approximately 648,500 tonnes of non-hazardous solid waste over the life of the site. The Notice of Completion of Review was issued on November 21, 1997 with the public comment period ending on December 22, 1997. The project was approved on June 17, 1998.
