Meet the Premier’s team

A bold and ambitious government that will protect Ontario and keep our communities strong, prosperous and secure.

Our plan to protect Ontario

At a time of economic uncertainty, working with labour, businesses and all levels of government, we’ve got a plan to protect Ontario.

Protecting Ontario from economic uncertainty

As U.S. tariffs continue to cause economic uncertainty, we’re building on our actions to help workers, businesses and communities weather the storm by:

  • investing $5 billion in the Protect Ontario Account to support tariff-impacted workers and attract investment from pension funds and other private capital to advance Ontario’s long-term economic and strategic priorities
  • cutting taxes and red tape to build on the $222 billion in investments to Ontario from foreign and domestic companies like Volkswagen/PowerCo, Vianode and Chapman’s and the 1 million jobs created over the last 8 years
  • investing $150 million into the Ontario Together Trade Fund over 3 years in response to strong demand for the program to help businesses serve more interprovincial customers, enhance trade resiliency and reshore critical supply chains

Protecting Ontario by unleashing our economy

We are tapping into Ontario’s enormous economic potential and transforming our economy into the most competitive place in the G7 to invest, create jobs and do business by:

  • leading the way in tearing down interprovincial trade barriers within Canada to unlock more than $200 billion in new economic activity, including automatically recognizing credentials from other provinces and territories so in-demand workers can get jobs faster and fill gaps in our labour force
  • unlocking the Ring of Fire ahead of schedule by developing key infrastructure, streamlining approvals and investing in processing to get critical minerals out of the ground, processed and shipped to factory floors faster to generate $22 billion in economic activity and create 70,000 jobs
  • investing in the development and expansion of Ontario’s nuclear power facilities solidifying the province’s position as an energy superpower, including a $1 billion investment through the Building Ontario Fund to build the first of 4 small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) — these 4 SMRs will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1.2 million homes

Protecting Ontario by building

We’re getting shovels in the ground faster, creating more construction jobs and laying the foundation for long-term growth and prosperity through our historic infrastructure plan. This includes:

  • investing $236 billion in our plan to build, the largest plan of its kind in Canadian history, on new and expanded highways, hospitals, transit, schools and community infrastructure so we can create jobs, grow Ontario’s economy and invest in the world-class services that workers and families depend on
  • keeping people moving by investing $70 billion in the largest transit expansion in North America, including the largest subway expansion in Canadian history, bringing back the Northlander, improving GO train passenger service, and expanding Billy Bishop Airport, which will contribute up to $8.5 billion to Canada’s economy every year by 2050 and support up to 23,000 jobs in Ontario’s construction sector alone
  • working with the federal government to invest $8.8 billion over 10 years in infrastructure that supports new housing an incentivizing municipalities to lower municipal development charges that add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cost of a new home

Protecting Ontario by keeping costs down

With economic uncertainty as a result of U.S. tariffs, we’re providing support for families and workers to make life more affordable across the province by:

  • delivering on the government’s plan to make Ontario the most competitive jurisdiction in the G7 and lower costs by removing the full HST for all eligible buyers of new homes valued up to $1 million, providing up to $130,000 in relief to all homes valued up to $1.5 million — this measure will provide $2.2 billion in total tax relief, add up to 8,000 housing starts, support 21,000 jobs and add $2.7 billion to Ontario’s GDP
  • cutting the small business corporate income tax rate from 3.2% to 2.2% — this 31% reduction will provide more than 375,000 small businesses $1.1 billion in tax relief over three years, saving the average small business $5,000 every year to invest back into their business
  • putting over $1.9 billion back in drivers’ pockets by eliminating the license plate fee, permanently maintaining cuts to gas tax and fuel tax rates and banning highway tolls

Protecting Ontario borders and communities

We’re keeping people safe by improving border security, keeping dangerous criminals off the streets and protecting communities across the province by:

  • enhancing security at Ontario’s borders to crack down on the flow of illegal guns, drugs and border crossings
  • strengthening Ontario’s justice system by continuing to invest in and build new and expanded jails, tightening the bail system for violent and repeat offenders and tackling organized crime and community violence
  • getting more police officers out on our streets and in our communities through the expansion of police training facilities across the province, removing tuition fees for police training programs, and making the path from recruit to officer more accessible than ever

Protecting Ontario’s public services

A strong economy is the foundation of our health-care system, our education and infrastructure. To deliver the critical services businesses and families rely on, our plan to protect Ontario’s public services includes:

  • connecting every person in the province to primary care by 2029 through our $3.4 billion Primary care Action Plan while investing to train doctors, nurses and other health-care workers
  • investing in our classrooms and ensuring student success with $30 billion in core education funding, increasing funding for the Ontario Autism Program to nearly $1 billion each year and providing $750 through the Classroom Supplies Fund for every elementary school homeroom teacher per school year so they can access the classroom materials they need to fit their teaching plans
  • investing $64 billion to build more than 50 hospitals across the province and funding treatment for lasting recovery from addiction by increasing HART Hub investment to more than $560 million and expanding the network to 29 hubs across Ontario
