The Government of Ontario is holding a webinar to spotlight the commitment of the Gulf Cooperation Council nations to smart mobility. 

 

The program will highlight the potential sales opportunities in Gulf states for Ontario companies with technologies related to vehicle manufacturing and transportation networks. Countries in the region are improving mobility, reducing congestion, and curbing carbon emissions as populations and workforces grow. 

 

The GCC is investing in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), a category which includes capabilities like traffic management sensors and cameras, systems to automatically call emergency services, and real-time updates for public transportation. In Saudi Arabia, the NEOM megacity project focuses on autonomous transportation, electric vehicles and other mobility solutions. The Saudi capital, Riyadh, has invested in driverless trains and an AI-based adaptive signaling project. The country also intends to have a handful of automotive OEMs producing more than 400,000 passenger vehicles by 2030.

 

In the UAE, Dubai’s strategy for smart vehicles aims to convert 25% of total journeys to driverless options by 2030, while Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City has a self-driving shuttle service and partnerships with e-scooter companies. The country has earmarked 10% of all vehicles on the road to be electric by 2030, while the UAE emirate of Abu Dhabi has announced its first EV assembly facility with EV testing.
