Have your say: Alcohol choice and convenience for the people
This consultation is now closed.
From December 13, 2018 to February 1, we invited you to share your feedback on modernizing the rules for the sale and consumption of alcohol in Ontario. Your input will help inform our modernization plan.
We will report back on the findings of this consultation.
Background
On November 15, we released the 2018 Fall Statement, a plan to make life more affordable for people and make Ontario open for business.
In this plan, we committed to putting Ontario consumers first and modernizing the rules for the sale and consumption of alcohol.
Our goal is to:
- modernize the rules impacting the alcohol sector in Ontario
- improve consumer choice and convenience
- provide more opportunities for private sector businesses
- ensure safe and healthy communities
This builds on our efforts to:
- lower the minimum price to $1 for any beer with an alcohol volume under 5.6%
- introduce legislation to stop the beer tax hike
- allow authorized retailers to sell alcohol from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week
About the consultation
We’re developing a plan to expand the sale of alcohol to corner stores, grocery stores and big-box stores based on demand.
To do this, we invited everyone to have their say on the rules for the retail and consumption of alcohol in Ontario.
This consultation was the first phase of this work, and will inform our plan to expand alcohol sales.
