Part III: Pre-competition requirements
1. Weigh-ins
- The Tournament Director or the assigned delegate is responsible for overseeing the weigh-ins to ensure all rules are followed.
- Weigh-in day
- The official weigh-in will occur either on the day before the event, on the day of the event, or on both days, as specified in the technical package.
- When weigh-in takes place on the day of the tournament, the official weigh-in must end a minimum of one hour prior to the start of competition.
- Athlete’s weight
- Athlete’s weight must be within the lower and upper limits of the category for which they are registered. In case two weight categories are combined according to the technical package, the athlete must weigh within the lower limit of the lower weight class and the upper limit of the higher weight class.
- Any athlete not making weight in their registered division is given the option of moving up (or down) to the category corresponding with their weight or withdrawing from the competition, unless no changes are allowed as specified in the tournament’s technical package. No refunds will be made for not meeting the weight requirements.
- Weigh-in rooms
- Weigh-in rooms should be separate dedicated rooms (no public access) for males and females. Access to the rooms must be restricted to the specific gender.
- All weigh-in room Officials must be of the same gender as the athletes. Each scale is serviced by a minimum of two designated officials of the same gender as the weigh-in athletes.
- A set of trial scales or access to official scales must be available to the participants of the event. Trial scales for male and female athletes must be placed in separate rooms.
- Scales
- Each weight class is assigned to a specific scale. Contestants must weigh themselves on the assigned scale only and cannot change.
- During the official weigh-in, each athlete is allowed to step on the scale only once for no more than 60 seconds. A brief step down from the scale to remove clothing or to cut hair is allowed if instructed by the weigh-in official.
- The required accuracy for scales is the first decimal digit after kilogram reading. If the display shows more digits, these must be covered by non-transparent tape.

- Each athlete is required to present identification documents as specified in the event Technical Package.
- Athlete attire
- All Senior athletes shall weigh in wearing only underclothing (men/boys – underpants and optional t-shirt, women/girls – underpants and bra and/or optional t-shirt). Any socks, jewelry or body piercings must be removed. Athletes are allowed to remove their underclothing – without stepping off the scales or briefly stepping off the scale if instructed by the official - to ensure they reach the minimum or the maximum weight limit of the weight category in which they are entered. No weight tolerance is allowed.
- All Junior athletes (those who turn 13 to 18 years of age in the current year) shall weigh in wearing only underclothing (men/boys – underpants and optional t-shirt, women/girls – underpants and bra and/or optional t-shirt).
