Overview
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities ensures Ontario has an excellent higher education and training system that gives people a high-quality education and a solid foundation of relevant skills and training. The education and training system prepares people so they can get good jobs and, at the same time, improve the competitiveness of Ontario's economy.
Major Responsibilities
Postsecondary Education:
- advancing students' postsecondary education through high-quality, accessible and accountable programs;
- encouraging research to stimulate innovation in our economy;
- providing financial support that makes postsecondary education affordable for all students; and
- providing capital funding to maintain high-quality buildings and facilities.
Training:
- providing apprenticeship training and services to ensure Ontario has the skills to compete and succeed;
- helping internationally educated and trained individuals practice their prior occupations in Ontario;
- providing programs to assist Ontarians, particularly youth, to acquire the skills they need to enter, re-enter and progress through the workforce;
- assisting workers facing business closures or other significant workforce adjustments; and
- working with TVOntario to expand the range of flexible opportunities for education and training where and when they are needed.
