Overview

The Ontario Women's Directorate (OWD) provides a vehicle for government action on issues of concern to women. Through partnerships with different sectors of society, the OWD works to advance women's economic independence and to prevent violence against women and their children so that young girls and women can enjoy life and career success.

The OWD strives to meet the ministry's vision of a province where people and families can benefit from and contribute to the communities in which they live. Its goal is a province where all women are able to pursue and achieve economic independence and where they can live free from the fear of violence against themselves and their children.

Major Responsibilities

The OWD provides focus for government action on issues of concern to women - in particular, social, economic and justice-related issues. The OWD has two key areas of activity: preventing violence against women and promoting women's economic independence .

The government works towards achieving its goals of safety and economic well-being for women, in part, by fostering partnerships with and among different sectors of society.
