Overview

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) collects business information from the federal government about Ontario employers who employ international agri-food workers under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The information collected includes:

  • employer business legal name
  • business address and contact information
  • anticipated number of international agri-food workers under TFWP
  • estimated arrival dates of international agri-food workers
  • program stream

Information collected will be used for the purposes of:

  • policy development
  • streamlining the delivery of initiatives and services for international agri-food workers and employers.
  • targeted and tailored outreach regarding various program and policy initiatives to provide relevant and timely supports to employers and international agri-food workers
  • improved management of future emergencies and enhanced emergency mitigation strategies
  • tracking changes in the labour profile of international agri-food workers and assessing labour needs in the agri-food sector

Notice of collection of personal information

OMAFRA will be collecting data pertaining to the country of origin of international agri-food workers from the federal government under TFWP. The personal information is being collected under the authority of section 4.1(2), of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. M.16. The information will improve the Ontario government’s ability to support and protect the health and safety of international agri-food workers in Ontario, specifically in emergency situations.

Application of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. F.31 (FIPPA) applies to information collected by the OMAFRA. Thus, information may be disclosed under FIPPA. Information may also be disclosed by order of a court or tribunal, pursuant to a legal proceeding or as otherwise authorized or required by law.
