Changes to the Housing Services Act, 2011
Learn about regulatory changes made for a new community housing framework under the Housing Services Act, 2011.
Overview
The passage of the Protecting Tenants and Strengthening Community Housing Act, 2020 and changes to Ontario Regulation 367/11 under the Housing Services Act, 2011 created a new regulatory framework for community housing that is more efficient and better meets households’ needs.
This guide includes an overview of regulatory changes in four areas:
- Service agreements between service managers and community housing providers that set baseline funding and operational rules for housing providers to continue to provide community housing once their original obligations end
- Broadening the types of housing assistance that can count towards service managers’ service levels
- Access system that includes publicly available information for forms of housing assistance available in local communities
- Income and asset limits for rent-geared-to-income assistance
Throughout the guide, we note whether each change is already in effect or will be in effect by a specific date.
