Meet the Chesneys

Located in Innerkip, Thames River Melons is a family-owned and operated farm that has been providing the community with fresh and delicious produce since 1984. What began as a single acre of cantaloupe planted by owner and head farmer Rob Chesney has expanded into a 500-acre farm. Today, Rob and Maria Chesney, along with their children, family, friends, and neighbors, work together to grow and sell a wide variety of fruits and vegetables across the seasons.

Each season at Thames River Melons offers its own goodness, from strawberries and rhubarb in the spring to melons and sweet corn in the summer, and finally, squash and pumpkins in the fall!

Chesney’s seasonal favourites

For Alex Chesney, the excitement lies in the anticipation of the first crops of the season. Some of Alex's favorites include raspberries, which are perfect for raspberry pie or anything involving baking. When it comes to vegetables, Alex loves those that can be grilled or stir-fried together, such as peppers, zucchini, eggplants, and carrots. Sweet corn is another favorite, especially for backyard BBQs and family dinners.

For the Chesneys, 'local' means...

For the Chesneys, ‘local’ is about more than just proximity; it’s about community. It’s the story behind the food—where it’s grown and how it’s cultivated. From farm to table, local food fosters meaningful connections between growers and eaters, creating a system of support and shared appreciation for fresh, high-quality produce.
