Work with government on a Stage 3 reopening plan

For businesses and sectors that are either not able to reopen in Stage 3 or who are experiencing significant challenges opening with restrictions in Stage 3, the government is committed to working with you.

In your submission, please consider how organizations in your sector would implement public health and workplace safety guidance. The Ministry of Health’s Guidance Document for Essential Workplaces (PDF) and the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development’s workplace safety plan template and sector-specific guidelines may be of assistance.

Based on the documents above, please include details on how you will support patron and worker safety, which may include:

  • Elimination controls
    • Signage; for example, to remind workers and patrons to avoid entering/coming into work if unwell
  • Engineering controls
    • Physical distancing measures to ensure patrons, workers, performers, etc. maintain physical distancing
    • Physical environment re-design, such as physical barriers (for example, plexiglass or other impermeable barrier)
  • Administrative controls
    • Admitting fewer patrons at a time
    • Staggering business hours
    • Increasing cleaning and sanitation of high-touch surfaces and shared amenities
    • Managing the flow of people, including measures from the arrival at the parking lot, to the entry in your business, through the facility, and at the exit (to avoid crowding)
    • Enabling patrons and workers to perform hand hygiene (making alcohol-based hand rub available) as well as access to lined no-touch waste baskets
    • Implementing contactless payment options
    • Where feasible, tracking patrons to support contact tracing efforts
  • Following provincial advice or local requirements on the use of face coverings
  • Protecting workers who may be interacting with patrons (for example, face coverings or personal protective equipment as required).
