Legislation: Land Titles Act

Bulletin content:

On February 25th, 2013 a change will be introduced relating to the method that Execution Certificate and Writ Detail Reports are displayed and printed through Teraview. These changes are being made now in Teraview in preparation of modifications the Ministry of Attorney General is planning to implement in future that will improve the format of these two reports.

No changes are being made to the Writ Search Rules, the Writ Clearing Statements or the Writ Search Methods. The only Teraview changes being made relate to the manner in which Execution Certificate and Writ Detail Reports are displayed on screen and printed. Execution Certificate and Writ Detail Reports will no longer print automatically. Instead a PDF image of the certificate or report will be displayed or available, depending on the situation. The PDF image can then be printed or saved through Adobe.

When multiple names are searched at one time, one “Clear” certificate will continue to be generated with all of the names that did not have any writs against them. Names searched that do have Writs of Execution against them will continue to receive their own certificate indicating the found writ numbers. However, to minimize any potential performance issues when more than 10 PDF files are open at one time, Teraview will link the certificates for up to 50 names together as one multiple certificate PDF file in an Adobe window. For example, if a Registration Folder had 50 Transfers in it, each having 2 different Transferors, the automatic writ search would result in 2 Adobe windows opening, each with a PDF File with the Certificates for 50 names. Current Teraview Folder limits allow for 300 ‘Party From’ names. If they all required Writ of Execution searches, 6 PDF files would result.

“Retrieve Writs” During Document Creation and Automatic Writ Search During Document Registration

As mentioned above, Execution Certificates will not automatically print when a user “Retrieves Writs” during document creation or when registering a document that automatically searches Writs. Instead, an Adobe window will be displayed with the certificate(s) for up to 50 names in it. If there are more than 50 names, additional Adobe windows will be displayed with up to 50 names until the system limits are met. The user can select to Print and/or Save the file.

Teraview’s Writ Search Application

When searching in Teraview’s Writ Application, the user will continue to view on-screen the Certificate details or the Writ details, however the print button is replaced with a “View Certificate” button when viewing the Certificate details and a “View” button when viewing the Writ Details. When one of these buttons is selected, an Adobe window will open containing a PDF image of the Execution Certificate or Writ Details Report and the user can select to Print and/or Save the file. While the Adobe window is open, the “View Certificate” or “View” buttons are disabled until the Adobe window is closed, at which time they are enabled again.
