1. Bout/match duration

  1. The duration of a Contact Bout for adult Athletes is three (3) minutes.
  2. If, after 3 minutes of fighting, the competitors are equal in all areas, then the Mat Referee will add one (1) minute extra time to determine the winner.
  3. It is essential that between two successive bout events, a minimum recovery time of 15 minutes shall be given to the competitors.
  4. The time starts immediately after the first announcement of the Mat Referee using his voice command “Fight”.
  5. The time is stopped only whenever the Mat Referee tell the table to stop the time (in case of injury, when a kimono is broken, or in several other possible situations). In all other cases, the time continues.
  6. An athlete is entitled to a maximum medical attention per bout of 2 minutes only. If any athlete may need more than two (2) minutes of medical time, they will lose the bout as they are considered unable to fight anymore due to medical reasons.

2. Scoring methodology

  1. The three Judges count every effective throw or take-down, every effective punch or kick and every submission attempt. The most active fighter will win the fight at the end of the fight. The Decision will be held in a 10:9 System.
  2. The fight can be ended when one of the fighters wins by:
    1. TKO (Technical Knock Out)
    2. Submission
    3. Active domination
    4. Decision
    5. Disqualification through penalty
    6. Injury or Medic decision

3. Legal scoring techniques

  1. Effective throw or take-down.
  2. Effective Punches, Kicks and Knees.
  3. Submission attempts.

4. Legal scoring targets

  1. Body
  2. Upper Leg
  3. Lower Leg/Calf

5. Illegal scoring techniques

  1. There are no head shots allowed at all. Not standing and not on the ground.
  2. Elbows are not allowed.
  3. Kicks and knee techniques from standing to ground/kneeing position are not allowed (Drop Kicks).
  4. Headbutts are not allowed.

6. Illegal scoring targets

  1. Strikes to the genitals, groin and anal region, spine, vital organs, and the parietal area (back of the head).
  2. Any strikes to the head.

7. Scoring fouls/penalties

  1. Heel hooks, both inside and outside.
  2. Knee reaping and outside twisted foot locks.
  3. It is not allowed to apply any lock on the spine at all. A lock applied in such a way that it puts stress on the spine will lead to disqualification.
  4. It is not allowed to make slams higher than the belt in standing position and higher than the shoulder line in ground position.
  5. It is not allowed to make intentional kicks to the knees. An intentional kick to the knee will lead to disqualification.
  6. Throw an opponent on his head; pile driving or spiking the head or a suplex throw or execute a throw by headlock (grabbing the head with both hands without grabbing a hand or uniform of the athlete being attacked).
  7. Grab or twist the fingers, hair and ears.
  8. Scratch, bite, pinch, gauge, fish hook any part of the body.

8. Result declarations

  1. All results are posted on the competition registration system.

9. Athlete attire and required equipment

  1. An official will inspect the equipment of all contestants prior to competition to ensure that the contestant’s equipment meets minimum standards and is in good repair.
  2. Mouth Guard (Gum Shields) to protect the teeth are not mandatory but are recommended and Groin Guards (Jock Strap) Soft Cup Type (for male competitors).
  3. Shin and instep protectors (slip-on type) and Open Palm Grappling Type Gloves of minimum 6 to 8 ounces weight.
  4. No-Gi uniform policy:
    1. Uniform policy for No-Gi tournaments.
    2. Rashguard must be mostly red or mostly blue, never mixing both colours.
    3. Back side must be reserved to nationality.
    4. Shorts must be black or same colour as rashguard. No pockets, buttons or zipper. No longer than the knee and covering more than half of the thighs.
    5. Compression shorts are not allowed.
    6. Elastic fabric pants as allowed under the shorts for female and male divisions. Must be all black.
  5. Gi/Kimono sizes and details:
    1. 7 centimetres (2.75 inches) or more spacing between arm and Kimono.
    2. Maximum of 1.3 centimetres (0.5 inches) in thickness and 5 centimetres (2 inches) in width for the trim around the Kimono.
    3. Belt width between 4 or 5 centimetres (1.5 to 2 inches)
    4. Belt tip length from the knot between 20 and 30 centimetres (8 to 12 inches).
    5. Space from the end of the Kimono sleeve should be less than 5 centimetres (2 inches) from the wrist.
    6. Bottom of Kimono should be longer than the gluteus muscle.
    7. Space between the lower leg and Kimono should be 7 centimetres (2.75 inches) or more.
    8. End of pant should be less than 5 centimetres (2 inches) from the ankle bone (tibial malleolus).
