On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Government of Ontario wishes to establish the position of Community Opportunities Advocate to provide strategic advice and identify actions that may improve outcomes in disadvantaged urban and rural communities;

Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve Her Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities,

  1. The position of Community Opportunities Advocate (“the Advocate”) is hereby established for a period not extending beyond March 31, 2022.
  2. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may appoint the Advocate, and this person shall serve at the pleasure of the Lieutenant Governor in Council for a period not extending beyond March 31, 2022.
  3. The Advocate will report to the Premier of Ontario (the “Premier”) and will work with the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, and such other ministries as directed by the Premier.
  4. The Advocate shall perform such duties and carry out such activities as are determined by the Premier, who may vary or amend those duties and activities from time to time.
  5. The Advocate may be paid such remuneration as the Lieutenant Governor in Council may determine.
  6. The Advocate shall be eligible for reimbursement of expenses incurred in the performance of his or her duties in accordance with the Management Board of Cabinet Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive.
  7. The Advocate shall be subject to the applicable laws of Ontario, the Management Board of Cabinet’s Agencies and Appointments Directive, 2019 and any successor thereto, and to all other applicable government directives, policies and guidelines.
