Overview

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming (MTCG) supports destination and product development and investment in Ontario’s tourism industry.

We partner with industry organizations, businesses, municipalities and regional advisors to:

  • provide advice and make connections
  • develop resources and tools that help grow Ontario’s tourism, culture and entertainment sectors
  • support the growth of festivals and events through the Experience Ontario program
  • encourage new product development and promote Ontario as a tourism destination

Program overview

The program provides financial support to festival organizers, not-for-profit organizations and communities to deliver impactful, multi-day experiences and Canada Day celebrations. These events aim to:

  • draw tourists
  • encourage travel
  • showcase innovative programming
  • enhance visitor spending
  • create job opportunities in the tourism, culture, and entertainment sectors
  • celebrate our regional and local diversity
  • raise our profile through media and social media exposure

Marquee Event Program

Overview

The Marquee Event Program provides support to municipalities and organizations in Ontario for the hosting of large-scale, high-impact events.

For an event to meet program criteria, it must:

  • be a major international event hosted in Ontario
  • have cash operating expenses totalling $1 million or more
  • have a large size and scope to draw tourists and generate significant economic impact for the province
  • be prominent enough to attract media exposure nationally and internationally

These events also provide legacy development (including volunteer and leadership development) for the local community, the region and the province.

Investment Table: Tourism Edition

Event overview

The Investment Table: Tourism Edition (formerly known as the "Meet the Tourism Investment Dragons") is one of MTCG's annual events, delivered in partnership with the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO).

Established more than a decade ago, the event has evolved into a highly anticipated, province-wide forum for municipal participation.
