$600 savings

for the average household since March 2022 by removing licence plate renewal fees

$380
savings

for households, on average, since July 2022 by cutting gas and fuel taxes

Providing tax relief at the pumps

In 2022, we:

  • cut the gas tax by 5.7 cents per litre
  • cut the fuel (diesel) tax by 5.3 cents per litre

We extended these rate cuts until June 30, 2025. This will save households an average of $380 over 3 years since July 1, 2022.

Combined with ending the cap-and-trade carbon tax in 2018, we’ve provided a total of 10 cents per litre in relief from provincial charges and taxes at the pump.

$200 taxpayer rebate

To put more money back in your pocket, we’re giving a $200 rebate to eligible Ontario taxpayers in early 2025.

We’re also giving families with children an additional $200 rebate for each eligible child under 18.

Keeping costs down

Free transfers for GTA transit riders

We’re keeping costs down for families and workers who take public transit.

One Fare means transit riders only pay once when transferring between GO Transit, TTC, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay and York Region Transit.

This will save commuters an average of $1,600 each year.

Banning road tolls

We banned tolls on new provincial highways.

Tolls on Highway 412 and Highway 418 were permanently removed in April 2022. This is expected to save drivers $68 million between 2022 and 2027.

Eliminated licence plate renewal fees

We eliminated the licence plate renewal fee for passenger vehicles in March 2022, saving the average household $600 to date.

We also froze fees for driver’s licences and Ontario Photo Cards, saving drivers an estimated $66 million over 5 years.

Ended the Drive Clean Program

Drivers are no longer required to get Drive Clean emissions tests for their passenger vehicles.

Ending this program has saved taxpayers over $40 million every year.
