Overview

To set up your profile and manage your business online in the Ontario Business Registry (OBR), you will need the following:

  1. your company key
  2. an Ontario.ca Login
  3. an Ontario Business Account

You will need ALL 3 to set up your profile. After setting up your profile the first time, you can access the OBR in the future by logging in through Ontario.ca Login.

If your corporation or entity was registered or incorporated before the launch of the OBR on October 19, 2021, the information has been migrated from the old system and it has a profile in the registry. You will still need to set up your account to access your business profile.

Setting up your OBR profile

1

Get your company key

This unique 9 digit number is required to link your business to your OBR profile.

2

Create and sign in with your Ontario.ca Login

This provides secure access to government applications including ServiceOntario.

3

Create an Ontario Business Account

The OBR is one of ServiceOntario’s online applications.

4

Link your business using your company key

Your business will now appear in your Ontario Business Account.

  1. Get your company key

Your company key is similar to a Personal Identification Number (PIN). It is a 9 digit code that is unique to your business and should be kept confidential. Your business name or Ontario Corporation Number (OCN)/Business Identification Number (BIN) coupled with your company key allows you to access and manage your business in the OBR.

If you have an intermediary, such as a lawyer or accountant that manages your business, you can provide them with the company key to perform transactions on behalf of your business.

    Get a company key

NOTE: It is always free to get your company key directly from the ministry.

    Your company key can be:

    • emailed immediately if you have an email address on file
    • mailed to the registered or head office address or principal place of business on file if there is no email address on file:
      • this process can take several days for your company key to be mailed to you
      • if your business address has changed from what is on file, you can answer additional questions to have a company key emailed immediately to you if you qualify
  2. Sign in with your Ontario.ca Login

Once you have your company key, hold on to it as you’ll be asked to enter it in the last step of this process.

You will need to sign in with an existing Ontario.ca Login or create a new one. An Ontario.ca Login is an authentication tool that provides secure access to government services.

Sign in or create an Ontario.ca Login
