Overview

We are looking for feedback to help us develop a Strategic Wood Measurement Modernization Plan, which will lay out actions that Ontario can undertake to modernize wood measurement over the next 10 years. The strategy will build on the commitments laid out in Ontario’s Forest Sector Strategy and corporate priorities including:

Evolving the wood measurement program in Ontario could include improvements to the existing system and investment in emerging/future technology.

The survey is designed to collect information that will help to understand stakeholder needs related to Ontario’s wood measurement program including:

  • wood measurement: strengths, weaknesses and other factors associated with current and future wood measurement programs
  • service modernization: opportunities, challenges and barriers to current and future program delivery including scaling courses, licensing, the provincial weigh scale program, and government wood measurement information systems
  • burden reduction: opportunities and barriers to reducing regulatory burden and streamlining government policy and administrative functions
  • labour attraction and retention: how current employers attract, retain and train skilled wood measurement workers in the short and long term

Who can take the survey?

We will:

  • survey stakeholders that have scaling agreements as well as the broader forest industry including:
    • forest resource processing facilities
    • a subset of permit to remove holders
    • forest management companies
    • members of the Ontario Forest Industries Association (OFIA)
  • target a variety of position and skill levels
  • aim for geographically representative responses
